Members of GOP and others introduce new carbon tax plan to WH
WASHINGTON D.C. (INTELLIHUB) — Two former Treasure Secs and other prominent figureheads from both the business and political fields have created themselves a “Climate Leadership Council” which intends to charge for the emission of carbon.
Although the Climate Leadership Council’s plan is nothing new in theory, the latest and greatest version touted by FRM Treasury Secretaries James Baker and Hank Paulson essentially begs the president to tax the release of CO².
Before speaking with top White House aides, along with Ivanka Trump, and Vice President Mike Pense on the matter, Baker said, “We know we have an uphill slog to get Republicans interested in this. […] a conservative, free-market approach is a very Republican way of approaching the problem.”
“Climate change poses an unacceptable risk to our climate and to our economy,” Paulson added.
“Putting a price on carbon is by far the most efficient and effective way to restrict emissions.” But even Baker admits he is “skeptical” when it comes to just how much humans are influencing the planet.
“The blueprint involves a $40 tax on every metric ton of carbon dioxide released by burning fossil fuels, with the price climbing over time. To avoid an undue burden on the poor from the higher energy bills that would result, the projected $200 billion to $300 billion in annual revenue would be redistributed to households in the form of quarterly checks from the Social Security Administration. Families of four would see an average annual payout of $2,000 under the plan,” Bloomberg reports.
However, despite the group’s passion for their dastardly cause they have failed to submit any innovative solutions to curve the actual problem and are merely suggesting that making money off of carbon emissions will somehow help save the world.
Last December, an already washed up Al Gore met with Trump in an attempt to lure Trump’s attention toward his ‘climate change’ legacy.
After the meeting Gore stated:
“I had a lengthy and very productive session with the president-elect. It was a sincere search for areas of common ground […] I found it an extremely interesting conversation, and to be continued, and I’m just going to leave it at that.”
It’s not yet known what the Trump Administration thought about the group’s proposal nor is it known how the Admin will deal with other valid environmental, geoengineering, issues and budgets.
