NASA has received the sounds of Saturn back from its Cassini spacecraft – and scientists were surprised to hear nothing.
As Cassini embarks on its grand finale – which will see it dive in and out of Saturn’s rings over the next few months before it plunges to its death – ground control has received audio back from the spacecraft.
It is the first time that scientists have been able to hear the sounds of Saturn and were expecting to hear something similar to what the Juno space probe picked up around Jupiter – a loud spooky roar.
However, NASA scientists heard nothing, barring some static, confirming that the voids between Saturn’s rings are virtually empty.
